“Arkell, who is a Mormon, was asked to sign a statement recognizing the Bible, not the Book of Mormon, as the word of God.”
As religious liberty fervor rises, this legal dispute between a publicly funded Bible Study Group and a Mormon provides a unique view of such liberties. It also serves as a reminder that members of the church may not always be on the popular “Christian” side of certain religious liberty laws but at times will find ourselves fighting as a minority.
The issue at hand is public funding for the group. The Kansas legislature has come down on the side of the Bible Study Group.
