Nehor Principle Part 1

so this is a cursory exploration of the

Nehor Principle here we go all right

so the Nehor Principle is the

fourth interpreter of the for

interpreters I use when looking at the

scriptures and gospel principles it is

not something that is a positive

principle it is a principle of context

it is a principle of adversity and

something that we need to be aware of

when we go through the scriptures there

seems to be a natural lower law force

psychological sociological that

spiritual that pushes away from the idea

of the Son of God coming down to earth

and taking upon him the sins of the

world there are various reasons for this

I believe that we’ll discuss more toward

the end of this episode but for various

reasons this is something that is pushed

against individually each one of us push

against it and have to be aware of it so

that we catch ourselves that’s why this

is one of the interpreters and secondly

as societies grow they push against this

idea so even when the idea the doctrine

of Christ that we learn especially about

in the Book of Mormon is presented and a

new dispensation whether it’s from the

time of Adam to Abraham to Moses at the

time of Lehi and coming down to the time

of Christ and then of course even in our

day there is a strong push back an

adversarial push back

on this idea of proxy on the idea that

the Son of God would actually lower

himself and come into mortality being

born of a woman and taking on the sins

of the world it is an offense to the

lower law it is an offence to a mortal

law and we can find this principle all

throughout the scriptures and it’s what

changes these theocratic societies that

we read about in each book of the

scriptures as they lose the idea of the

Son of God because it’s not just the

doctrine of Christ we need to parse that

out a little bit the doctrine of Christ

includes the idea that he will be born

of a woman and come down take on a

mortal body and take on the sins of the

world that is something more specific

under the umbrella of the doctrine of

Christ and it’s a very important part of

the Nehor Principle it is what the

Nehor Principle is there are various

corruptions of the doctrine of Christ

and over all that’s what I am putting in

under this umbrella of the Nehor

Principle but specifically or not to get

too specific but specifically the idea

of the sacrifice of God of the Son of

God is what the Nehor Principle is

about and it is what much of Scripture

is a reaction to it it’s written about

it’s a reaction of the prophets to this

loss of the doctrine of the Son of God

that they are out expounding this

doctrine trying to hit it hard with the

people so that we understand that this

is what the center of the gospel is

about so let’s go through some examples

here passing through the scriptures to

see how this principle works and how the

prophets react to it first of all let’s

take a look at

Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden right

here from the get-go as Adam and Eve are

driven out into the lone entry world and

they are praying to God they get a

response right and the response is not

from God it is from Satan and the

question from Adam is who are you and

his answer is I’m the god of this world

and that is the precedent that we have

as new dispensations are rolled out and

all of these truths in the fullness of

the gospel and the fullness of the

Melchizedek Priesthood and its

ordinances are rolled out the god of

this world does everything to a SERP our

God and the focus of that is the son of

God is Jesus Christ and in one way or

another either completely eliminating

that idea or tweaking it corrupting it

so that we don’t have the same

understanding and relationship with the

Savior and with our Father and so that

we learn to move a little bit more

toward the god of this world that’s the

idea and it’s very effective and we

know right from the get-go that Adams

children and grandchildren start to fall

away and a big part of that I believe is

this this tweaking of the doctrine of

Christ or the doctrine of the son of God

there are few anchor points that we can

look at with this and again this

principle helps us to understand what

the prophets are doing and why their

exhortation of Christ is so strong

the first thing I think we need to do is

give a background of Nehor and I’m

going to mix in here a couple of other

what they call anti Christ’s which are

really just those that are against

Christ those are that are against the

doctrine of Christ there’s three of

these guys that are found in the Book of

Mormon and I want to go over a couple of

the others here and then we’re going to hit

me or

first is Sherem we find this in Jacob

seven Sherem and these other antichrists

are highlighted for a very specific

purpose remember that this is the Book

of Mormon another testament of Jesus

Christ and so this is what we need to

watch out for here in Chapter 7 the last

chapter of Jacob it says and now it came

to pass after some years had passed away

there came a man among the people of

Nephi whose name was Sherem who knows

knows where he came from another people

probably maybe somebody who had a

background from Jerusalem and it came to

pass that he began to preach among the

people and to declare unto them that

there should be no Christ and he

preached many things which were

flattering unto the people and this he

did that he might overthrow the doctrine

of Christ so this is the first guy that

comes around in the Book of Mormon that

specifically says I don’t think he’s the

first but he’s the first one where we

specifically see the authors writing

about someone who’s trying to overthrow

the doctrine of Christ so he’s not

trying to overthrow a religion he’s not

an atheist

he just wants to overthrow the doctrine

of Christ that’s the knee core principle

and he was learned that he had a perfect

knowledge of the language of the people

wherefore he could use much flattery and

much power of speech according to the

power of the devil

so he’s very persuasive he’s articulate

rhetoric he knows how to talk and

communicate his message and he’s using

this as an art language is a tool and

there are a lot of people out there that

know this very well that their language

can be used words can be used phrases

can be used to form a narrative and

that’s what Sherem is doing and Sherem

says to Jacob says I have sought much

opportunity that I might speak unto you

for I have heard and also know that thou

goest about much preaching that which he

called the gospel or the doctrine of

Christ

that is his target it’s going right to

the heart of things why well because he

wants to bring the higher law he wants

to get rid of the higher law and he

wants to come down just to the law of

Moses this is what he says and you have

let away much of this people he’s

talking about Jacob that they pervert

the right way of God and keep not the

law of Moses which is the right way so

here we have that higher and lower law

and they go that higher lower law which

is another interpreter that I use one of

the four goes hand-in-hand with this

knee whore principle he wants to get rid

of the higher law the higher law is the

law of Christ and he wants to focus just

on the law of Moses very similar to what

Lehi Jacob’s father and Nephi and Laman

and Lemuel in their environment that

they had at Jerusalem when they left and

convert the law of Moses he’s saying he

wants to convert the law of Moses into

the worship of a being would ye shut you

say shall come many hundred years hence

very interesting so he’s saying look the

law is the law and that’s all there is

there is only the lower law and you want

to convert it into something where

there’s another being that is involved

with this law in other words Jacob’s

preaching about the higher lies

preaching about Christ who is going to

come and be born of a woman and take on

the sins of the world and that the

entire law of Moses is looking forward

to this that’s what the sacrifices are

for that’s what the remembrance is for

and of course we know that that’s true

we know that that’s what the law of

Moses is supposed to do but as happens

in many dispensations and areas of I

mean geographic areas of the gospel

people of the Lord they lose sight of

Christ and they fall back to the to the

lower law and that’s what Sherem is

trying to bring about here he’s trying

to preach against Christ and focus just

on the lower law and this is what he

says and this is important we’re going to

come back to this when we get back to

the beginning of the Book of Mormon he

says I declare unto you that this is

blasphemy for no man knoweth of such

things for he cannot tell of things to

come so the higher law includes the

spirit of prophecy the higher law is the

ability to see forward it would be what

prophets have it’s revelation for all of

us it’s inspiration it’s going beyond

the scripture a closed canon it’s the

ability for us to relate and to

communicate directly with God that’s

part of the higher law but he says it’s

blasphemy and that’s an important thing

to understand here with it what I try to

get across with a knee whore principle

this is not I could have called it the

core whore principle you know I get oh

and get to him in a minute but core

whore is an atheist that’s not what this

is about this is about corrupting

religion this is about corrupting

ultimately overall it’s about corrupting

the gospel and true Christianity that’s

what Nehor ends up doing

that’s what Sherem is trying to do is to

fall back to where Lehi Lehigh’s people

were when he was in Jerusalem and Jacob

says deny though the Christ who shall

come and he said if there should be a

Christ I would not deny him but I know

that there is no Christ neither has been

nor ever will be and I said unto Him

believe it style the Scriptures and he

said yay and I said unto Him then you do

not understand them for they truly

testify of Christ behold I say unto you

that none of the prophets it’s a very

important point

none of the prophets have written nor

prophesied save they have spoken

concerning this Christ so here we have

those that have all of the scriptures a

complete denial of

what the prophets are talking about all

of the prophets have prophesied about

Christ and yet there is this desire this

force to corrupt this doctrine to get

rid of this doctrine of Christ and Jacob

goes on because he wants to make sure

this is included I know if there should

be no atonement made all mankind must be

lost and so that’s obviously right at

the core of the doctrine of Christ the

doctrine of the son of God and then

Sherem comes back and says show me a

sign by this power of the Holy Ghost so

the Holy Ghost is part of the higher law

in which ye know so much so in other

words he doesn’t believe in the Holy

Ghost he doesn’t believe in the higher

light isn’t believing that revelation

that would come from the Holy Ghost

that’s what this is about that’s what

the knee core principle is about core

whore is another character that comes in

and does not believe in Christ he does

not believe in God period and he’s the

one that wants a sign for everything

Sherem wants a sign too but core whores

focus is very simply he’s the Science

Guy right and I love science science

teaches us an awful lot but for core

whore he wants the proof first he does

not want to live by faith he doesn’t

believe in trusting in principles he

wants everything brought to him and

shown to him basically he wants his

progress to be spoon-fed to him that’s

the way I see it somebody who needs a

sign for everything is someone who wants

to be spoon-fed there’s no growth in

that and then lastly we get to Nehor

himself this introduction comes right at

the very beginning and writing the

beginning of chapter 1 that’s what

chapter 1 of the book of Alma is all

about Alma becomes the first chief judge

and the first example of him being chief

judge here is Nehor and Nehor goes

around and the way he’s introduced

primarily is with priestcraft he wants

to be paid he wants to corrupt the

religion and he wants to be paid

he ends up killing Gideon the sword

fight Gideon his old remember Gideon is

the one who was the hero against King

Noah another anti-christ

and here gideon again late in his life

has to contend against another person

who was against the doctrine of Christ

and that’s nee horny whore is a big man

and Gideon at this time is old and even

though he’s a hero

war hero Nehor slays him and he’s put

to trial with Alma and then he’s well

he’s put away with let’s say but not

before he is able to get a very large

following and an ideology that is very

very firm that is completely against the

doctrine of Christ and if we go down to

chapter 6 we get a little bit more

information now me whore doesn’t give us

a concise little doctrinal expose like

Sherem did but what he does and the

reason that I use his name as the

principal is that he is able to teach

this principle very well to a lot of

people and dig it in ideologically into

these people and there are a lot of

different groups of people that come

from this profession of the knee whores

one of them is the people of Ammoniah

remember this is where Alma goes as he

leaves being chief judge and he finds

Amulek and he teaches with Amulek

there in Ammoniah and he’s talking

about Christ he’s focusing in on the

doctrine of Christ with a me like and

it’s interesting here you find in this

story that this is where in Alma 13 we

get the whole thing on the

Melchizedek Priesthood on the higher law

they’re going over the Melchizedek

Priesthood and the Son of God and the

higher law with the people of Ammoniah

and Zeezrom the lawyer because that’s what

they are against primarily they’re

against anything to do with the higher

law any

to do with Christ and the whole people

have been converted they’re all people

of Nehor well most of them but they

convince a few and then just like with a

bin a die those people that stick to

their guns and back up Alma and Amulek

and are basically carrying their

cross for Christ they’re going to stick

to their guns and believing in the

doctrine of Christ they’re put into the

fire and killed women children everybody

and then later the people of am and I

are completely wiped out by the

Lamanites interestingly in chapter 16 of

Alma we get something similar that Laman

and Lemuel say and really that King Noah

and his priests were saying as well and

that is that their great city could

never be destroyed because of its

greatness and because of their

righteousness

remember these are religious people we

get an idea sometimes that we have the

good guys you know Alma and Amulek

and then the bad guys are irreligious

and that it’s not true the people that

they are contending against may be more

religious in other words they could be

fanatical sometimes so the issue here

with a knee whore principle isn’t

religion against non religion just good

against bad in that sense it’s about how

that it’s about the doctrine it’s about

the doctrine being corrupted and changed

and the focus of that corruption is

always on the doctrine of the son of God

the doctrine of Christ so let’s run

through some of the examples here

through the scriptures to get an idea of

how this new core principle works how it

takes effect and how the prophets react

to it first of all let’s look at Moses

Moses takes the children of Israel out

of Egypt and while they are on in the

Exodus out in the wilderness he goes up

to Mount Sinai this is a crucial point

and something that Joseph Smith had a

lot to say about he goes up to Sinai and

he

brings down the law of God and he comes

back down and he finds Aaron with the

golden calf that’s a whole other podcast

we’ll go over and the people making

merry and in sin what does Moses do he

takes the tablets that he has the law of

God which is not the law of Moses at

least not alone and he takes them and he

breaks them gone now what did those

tablets include they included the

fullness of the gospel they included the

Melchizedek Priesthood they included

everything about Christ and the Holy

Ghost and all that would be encompassed

in the higher law remember that the Lord

said he wanted a nation of priests

well the nation of priests would be with

the Melchizedek Priesthood where that

could be given to all of the men and

where all people could participate in

the fullness of the temple ordinances

and become priests and priestesses

that’s the Melchizedek priesthood but the

people rejected it not only did they sin

when Moses had come back down from Sinai

but they specifically said that they did

not want to see the face of God they did

not want to go up to the mountain to see

God that is a representation if you will

of the temple right they did not want to

go all the way through the temple where

they would have come to the veil and

meet God they did not want that now why

wouldn’t somebody want that well there’s

a number of things we can look at but

one at the time was they were not ready

to accept the doctrine of Christ

completely there’s reasons for that one

of them is responsibility it’s a higher

covenant you have to commit yourself to

something spiritually and they were not

ready to do it they couldn’t do it and

so what happens Moses goes back up Sinai

he tries to intervene with the Lord

who’s saying look I’m going to wipe out the

Israelites now and he makes atomenent

for them moses does in a sense he

actually he’s kind of like the savior in

this sense in that kind of a role and he

says look take me instead and the Lord

says no any and they end up the Lord

ends up writing new a new law will kind

of law a lower law so what he comes back

down with is the Torah right the law of

Moses now but this is a lower law and he

comes down and he gives the law and

that’s what the Israelites have that’s

where they have all the way down to the

time of Jesus that doesn’t mean the

Melchizedek Priesthood is gone Moses

held them okay as it increased it he

received the Melchizedek priests and from

his father-in-law Jethro

remember he married Zipporah who is a

Midianite so here you have an example of

a non Israelite Jethro who has the

Melchizedek Priesthood and he has a

lineage of that priesthood that goes

back to Abraham and you have an example

of Moses marrying a non Israelite as

well just like Joseph did so that’s what

the Israelites have they are going to

focus on the lower law because they are

not ready for a higher law and in fact

they are going to wander in the desert

for forty years until that generation is

pretty much gone so that the new

generation is the one that’s going to come

into the Promised Land

that’s important to understand they had

rejected the higher law which would be

the law of Christ at that point and then

we come down to the time of Isaiah and

we get another great example of this

this is very interesting Isaiah the King

at the time with Isaiah after a house

was Hezekiah and we get a lot of

writing during this time about Hezekiah

in the Book of Isaiah where Isaiah

writes in a way that is metaphorical

with Hezekiah where he is a king a

suffering servant and I believe that

this is a temple drama that they’re

writing about where King Hezekiah is

acting in a sense as the son of God and

it’s a metaphor that there

that they’re putting together here but

one of the things king Hezekiah does is

he makes some reforms not just small

reforms he makes massive reforms and one

of the things that one of the reforms he

makes is he removes the nehushtan he

calls it he calls it nehushtan which

would be the brazen serpent from the

temple now remember the brazen serpent

is what Moses held up in the wilderness

when the Israelites murmured and spoke

against God there were a lot of snakes

poisonous snakes fiery serpents that

were sent and bet the Israelites this is

something that happened you can find

this in in ancient historical documents

very ancient historical documents where

there are plagues of snakes it happens

in the Book of Mormon once or twice and

you can imagine going back to the Nile

where all of these plagues had just

happened

the Nile turning to blood the frogs the

the locusts this could very well have

been a reaction a very distant reaction

from this ecosystem being massively

disrupted but the Lord tells Moses to

make a brazen serpent put her on a staff

and hold it up well that’s a sign of

healing right even today the medical

sign is the two snakes around a staff so

look to the brazen serpent which is a

representation of Christ and we get that

parallelism again in the Book of Mormon

a couple of times and in the New

Testament several times where Christ is

made as a parallel to the brazen serpent

that the sub-region serpent is a symbol

of Christ and those that would look at

the brazen serpent would be healed from

their the poison and in the book of more

and more told that many died just

because it was so simple and that’s the

point here they would not look

the brazen serpent because of the

simpleness of it remember the Jews later

on that looked beyond the mark it’s an

attack on the doctrine of Christ but the

nehushtan is a representation of

Christ why is the nehushtan taken

out of the temple this is a

representative of Christ now we’re told

in the Book of Kings that it’s because

the people started to worship it in

other words idolize it they turned it

into an idol and they started burning

incense to it and making it something

that it was not that might be true might

not but the reason I say it might not is

because who knows if it came from higher

up in the priesthood where these changes

might have been made or if it was really

just the people the common people that

started to change what this brazen

serpent represented regardless whichever

way it happened there was a change in

the idea of the nehushtan of the

brazen serpent and now we get the brazen

serpent which is kicked out of the

temple this is very interesting because

think about Genesis and the story of

Adam and Eve again we’re at where

Satan says that he is the god of this

world he’s trying to assert Christ and

what happens to him he’s banished out of

out from Adam and Eve it’s exactly what

happens with Anna Houston where it’s a

serpent now and now the serpent here

would be like Satan and because it’s

changed to represent something different

what was supposed to represent the true

God now represents the god of this world

and so it is tossed out and banished

it’s pretty interesting regardless

though we have a change can you imagine

taking away pictures of Jesus that we

wouldn’t

see that anywhere that we wouldn’t see

paintings in our chapels that we

wouldn’t see that in the Visitor Center

in the temple because of whatever reason

because we don’t want to worship it

regardless of why this happened

it is a big change and it is against the

doctrine of Christ so that’s a good

example this force that continues to

happen there is a constant fight against

the doctrine of Christ
